I’ve recently been lucky enough to interview Haley. She has shared lots of helpful tips and resources, so make sure to take some notes ✌️❤️
What led you to want to make your lifestyle transformation and where are you at now?
Hey my name is Haley. I got into fitness just in the last year. My fiancé proposed to me July 2015 and I cried when I saw the pictures. I’ve struggled with weight my whole life, but it was my top weight. I didn’t even recognize myself so I knew I needed a change. I was tired of sweating, getting out of breath just walking, avoiding fun activities, being tired, feeling like crap, and definitely didn’t want to hate my wedding pictures. So I made up my mind to get healthy.
What was the hardest part about making your transformation and how did you overcome it?
The hardest part was definitely staying motivated. I go through periods of being totally on track and either getting bored with my routines or just getting discouraged by lack of visual progress in the mirror or on the scale. So I had to come up with all kinds of tricks to keep me motivated when I felt like giving up. I made a fitness Instagram, hung up signs in my house, made a fitness journal, got a Fitbit, decorated my scale, made playlists, posted monthly goals, etc.
Do you have any favourite fitness resources or information sources?
I personally enjoy doing Beach Body routines. I started with 21 Day fix and went up from there. I also got into Yoga and use doyouyoga.com for lots of my yoga purposes. I also periodically do an app called Couch to 5k so I can keep running. I’m not very good at running but it helps me stay in cardio shape. Most of all I recommend My Fitness Pal to learn about and track your food. You have to be honest about what you put in your body to make any changes!
If you could only offer one piece of advice, technique or strategy for women looking to transform themselves, what would it be?
My one piece of advice is GO SLOW. Make real, permanent habit changes.
Don’t do some fad diet or brutal workout that you can only keep up for 2 weeks. Bc you will give up sooner. Start with a couple of small changes like not eating after 8 or jogging 3x per week. Once that becomes routine, make another habit. You want to be healthy forever. Not 2 weeks.
Do you have any final things you would like to mention?
Lastly I would like to say that I’m always open to talk to anyone that reaches out. I use Instagram for fitness and answer every message. You can find me at @haley_j_smith.
Good luck on your journey! Take it slow and make a realistic change.
Love your progress! Keep it up!
